I just bought my first bike, 02 F4i. My tack doesn't work. When I turn the key, the niddle goes up and down but then nothing. No response at all. The bike runs and drives, evrything including speedo work. When I bought the bike, seller told me it is the pickup coil sensor. So I bought it and its coming but then I did some research and found that if my bike runs, it can't be pickup coil. If it was the pick up coil sensor, the bike wouldn't run... Is that true?? Should I even go thru the trouble replacing it? I checked the wiring, everything seems to be ok, checked the cluster, all connections... good. What else can be wrong? I aslo read somewhere that it may be ecu (computer). But sinse everything else work just fine, can it be ecu?? Anyway to check it for sure without buying a new one? Any other suggestions/ideas would be good. Anyone got ecu cheap that i can buy and see if that is the problem? Anybody had same exact problem, what was the issue? Thanks.

 

Well, I guess I will reply to my own thread. Maybe it will be of a help to someone else. The solution to my tack problem was the computer / ecu / mci / brain whatever you want to call it. Once the ecu was replaced, tack started working. Also, I found out that it can not be the pick up coil sensor if your bike runs. If the sensor goes bad, your bike will not run. I wish I knew that before I purchased a pick up coil sensor from ebay.
