just put my shift linkage in, it seems to work smoothly. only thing is it has 6 positions, i was expecting 7. the shfter isnt gated or anything, maybe i have it on upside down or something lol

you want the converter to fully engage the pump so i would probably leave the spacers just make sure they arent actually pushing on the converter , the flex plate for the 700 probably has raised areas where it bolt to the converter..

imagine the spacers were connected to the converter you would want to be able to spin the converter if it wasnt bolted to the flex plate ...

as far as the linkage goes do you have the right shifter ?

if there is nothing connected to the tranny and you were to manually shift it how many positions does the out put shaft for the shifter have ?

remember that before you even touch it if the tranny is in park that counts as 1

there may have been a 700 r4 transmission that wont allow to to manually shift to low but im not positive about that i just remember some would shift out of low even if you had the shifter in low and didnt move it

Re: more new models OMR SUBCAGES !!!

i suspect there was some room between the converter and flexplate on the th 350 but no where near 3/4 of an inch , you probably never had a reason to try and move the converter back away from the flex plate

i have a generic center/floor shifter, oem is 3 on the tree, which i dont really like. on mine, when the linkage isnt connected to the tranny, the stick can freely move forward or backward with almost no resistance.

i havent disconnected it to check but the stick has plenty more room to move, at either end. Its not hitting anything in the cab or underneath, i have a real good view of it all from the bottom.

im sure over the years ive seen rwd chevys with shift options for 1, 2, and OD but no 3 or D option on the shifter. hmm wait that mighta been my dodge. All the console pics of camaros and such ive seen all have markings for 4 forwards gears. im gonna look for chevy truck dashboards now

when i took the 350 out, there was room for a washer between them, nothing more. but youre right, i didnt try sliding the converter back at all.

Re: more new models OMR SUBCAGES !!!

if your shifter doesnt have a gate it's gonna be kinda hard to figure out what gear youre in , there should be spot for each gear and going from neutral to reverse should take some sort of action like pushing a button or lifting a lever ..

same from park to reverse

theres a good solid feeling click between each one. then end that i believe to be park, revers, neutral does seem to have stronger clicks than the end i believe to be 1 or 2.

I used to have a friend who ran one of the top transmission shops around here. Then he got mixed up in drugs and fell off the map. I wish I could find him now.

alot of aftermarket shifters are made to work with a 3 or 4 spd tranny , some times the have different gates all together and some have a gate you can unbolt and turn over and some just have a removable stop to allow for another position , take a good look at your shifter and i would unhook the linkage and count the amount of positions the tranny has

after seeing more stunt vids my uncle thinks the local gov't here in honduras should make a parking lot accessible to people who want to learn to stunt, as well as bicycle stunters, and skateboarders. i concur. he also said if stunt teams came here people would pay to see them and the money should be used for the winner of a competition and maintaining the lots. then stuntin would become a local thing and a new hobby would arise here for the locals. perhaps he should run for governor.
