Re: more new models OMR SUBCAGES !!!

perhaps you guys can help me out. see this connection in my hand? it's shooting out gas. the hose goes to a breather tube at the front of the bike, in the intake duct (ram air maybe?). the little plastic pipe is connected to the front of the carbs. the fuel intake is at the back of the carbs, so why is it backing out into what appears to be this breather tube in the font?? or is that hose incorrectly plugged into the wrong pipe (i doubt it)?

i cleaned out the jets because they were extreeeemely clogged. the worst i'd ever seen. but i only opened the carb covers, removed the jets, cleaned them, and sprayed the cars with carb cleaner. i didn't take them apart any further. the bike had sat for months and months. the engine turns but it won't start. it has spark, it gets gas into the cylinders, the air filter is clean. my only guess is it has something to do with this pipe/breather hose up front.

i found this in an article. looks like gas is leaking into the described breather system.

"Twin vents mounted beneath the headlight channel air via ducts running over the frame beams and into a sealed airbox. Look closely, and you can see two smaller nozzles behind the grilles which connect to the carburetor float bowls. Their function is to equalize the pressure between float bowls and airbox; without them the higher pressure of the incoming charge would upset the carburetion, potentially blowing fuel out of the bowls and tending to push fuel back down the jets, causing mixture leanness."

Re: more new models OMR SUBCAGES !!!

if a bike is running lean, it'll cause a pop in the muffler, right?

Re: more new models OMR SUBCAGES !!!

i'm helping someone with their 01 zx9. it looks like something's clogged or the floats have to be adjusted. i'm not really familiar with adjusting floats or even diagnosing them. might just give the bike back to the guy. i'd like to fix it though. i just don't want to clean it, then find out something else needed to be done to the carbs before reassembling everything. i was thinking about thuroughly cleaning them and synchronizing them but now that it might be a float issue i really don't wanna spend too much time learning/experimenting with that ****.

and yeah, i have an f4i and a 1000RR

Re: more new models OMR SUBCAGES !!!

adjusting floats is a pretty straight forward job if you lower the float level it will stop the gas from going into the bowl sooner by closing the needle and seat sooner and raising the float level will allow more fuel in the bowl by leaving the needle and seat open longer ..

im not positive where and what that hose is but if a needle and seat is allowing too much fuel in a bowl for what ever reason the result is usually fuel coming out an over flow hose ..

gonna google to see proper adjustment. if i have to take **** apart and put it back together over and over then i'll just give the bike back to the dude.

there is a specific measurement and if they arent that far off i would suspect one of the needle and seat arent sealing ..
