Need help.....Bike just shut off at a stoplight.
I have been having problems lately when I start the bike, the battery just seemed like it didn't have enough juice, even though it started. I pulled the clutch in at the light and a few seconds later the rpm's dropped and then I couldn't start the bike again and had to push it off the road. I have a feeling its the stator not keeping the battery charged. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
THanks for any help,
Kenny

I haven't replaced the battery since I got the bike 6 months/ 10,000 miles ago. The battery might not have ever been changed for all I know. But from what I know the battery just doesn't die for no reason.

check the battery with a voltometer. If it's good then it's probably a connection, start at the battery with the ground and the other one, then work from there.
I had the same thing happen and it turned out I hadn't tighten the ground right from the battery tight enough. Stupid. Start with the easiest and cheapest things first, then move onto the pricey stuff.

Just to inform yall, I own a 98' cbr 900rr. What does the rectifier do? Is it the little box bolted on the right side of the subframe? I hear a very fast clicking noise coming from that box because of my battery being dead.

I would bet it's the battery,
Motorcycle batteries arn't like a cars battery, when they go,,, THEY GO. when you pulled up to the stoplight, you dropped down to idle, if the battery was having trouble already then the low RPMs weren't enough to keep the system charged and poof. This is really really common and it's also common that people think it's something else because cars won't do that most of the time a car is fine until you turn it off and then it won't restart. Bikes die all the time at stoplights because of the battery. If it were me I would charge the battery hook it up to the bike. measure the output of the battery should be around 12 then start the bike. it should shoot up to 13.2 or so and maintain that through the idle. more than likely the battery is done. The next place I would check if that's not the problem is the voltage regulator. but like I said, most probably it's the battery. All of the symptoms are there you said it sonded weak before and it died at a stop. seriously motorcycle batteries are fairly crappy. best case senerio is a battery that lasts 2 years after that you are seriously pushing your luck.
