Redlining

These forums always seem to provide good answers so:

In reality, how hard is it on an engine to redline or ride consistenly within the 80 - 90 percent range of redline? Is it going to damage the engine more rapidly than "easier" riding, or do modern bikes actually "enjoy" a good thrashing now and again?

Re: Redlining

eh, bouncing the revlimiter is way worse. red lineing is normaly set alittle below what the engine can actully handle, so its not real bad but it doesn't hurt anything, bike is most efficiant in the HP and torque curve, anything after really is worthless. higher rpm is better on a bike then 6th gear @ 20mph wide open throttle.. good way to flex a crank. timing chains like to break in high rpms and when ur bouncing the rev limiter.

Re: Redlining

i beat da **** out of my ninja. i run mine to the rev-limiter acasionaly and redline on a daily basis, no isues yet except for aircleaner/vacume problem, which had nothing to do with high revs that i know of, like other dude said, its not as bad as runing to slow in higher gears.

Re: Redlining

I was wondering the same thing. B/c when I ride with a few friends they hit the rev limiter all the time. Usually not when riding just when they jack around at stop lights and stuff. I try not to make a habit out of it, but I have done it a few times.

since it's a gixxer, that was probably from oil starvation (wheelies); not beating on it
