Another r6 gearing ?

I know this has probably already been asked, but I couldnt find it. I am about to change sprockets on my r6, thinking of going +10 on back. Would -1 and +7 be better, as far as feel and clearance issues(if their are any with +10). Also what do I need for a chain to work with this gearing, would 530/120 work. Ive talked to a couple of shops but havent gotten a clear answer from anybody with actual experience with this bike. I still want to be able to ride on the street, and keep some speed, since I have no truck and my spot is about an hour away. any helpful info on what to get and how it will affect my bike is appriciated!!!

+10 might be a little much for the street but you could still rock it. I am +14 and def. would'nt recommend that for the street, especially if you riding any real distances. I also would'nt mess with the front sprocket but that is just my A 530 is good but a 120 was'nt long enough for my +14 but might work for +10???

Post Re: Another r6 gearing ?

I ride an 02 R6 and just changed my gearing to -1, +7. I had originally changed it to -2, +7, which was great for 2nd, 3rd even 4th gear shi7 but too torquy for 1st gear slow shi7. Throttle was real jumpy. With the -1, +7 I can still ride highway and I'm more comfortable learning the slow stuff, and 2nd & 3rd is cake also. I have SS sprockets and D.I.D 520/120 chain. My is start with the -1, +7 for now, good setup to start with. Feel free to PM me with anymore questions you have since we have the same bike. L8r.

I believe for every tooth you go down in the front equals +3 in the back. So if you go -1, +7, it's really equal to -1, +10. Also, they say the throttle is less twitchy if you are stock front and just go up in the back. I'm -1 in the front so I can't speak from experience. I'll tell one thing though, expect your rpm's to scream when you're trying to keep up with traffic on the highway. I can keep up with traffic but once I push it it's screamin! It's ok, just something to get used to

Mine was -1/+14 and it was great for slow stuff but definatly bad for the street. only went 115mph! check it out.

Arrow Re: Another r6 gearing ?

I say go up 10 to 14 on the rear. Never go down on your front sprocket, it makes youre bike more torqy and it will also eat up your chain. Dont go with -1 +7 thats sucky gearing right thurr. Do a 525 conversion kit, talk to phil at www.moto-heaven.com , hell tell u whats up...
