straightening a subframe

Here's the deal. I balled up awhile back and bent my subframe..wondered why it pulled to the right a little when on the bar. Anyway, the right side is up about 1/2".
What's the best way to straighten it out?

You cant really bend aluminum back easy, It always wants to crack. Best thing to do is build your bar around this problem. Shorten the bar up on one side. Check for cracks in your subframe and get someone to tig weld them if you have any...

The aluminum didnt crack or anything? Ive had nothing but bad luck with aluminum. I dropped my bike one time and it rolled and the subframe barely hit the road and it had 4 cracks in it...

Re: straightening a subframe

I've been successful in straightening a mx subframe w/ a 32oz rubber mallet. Take your time and and do it slow. It seems like it takes forever, and it does. I was probably just lucky, but in my case I didn't end up w/ any visible cracks in the welds. It's worth a shot.

HEAT gentlemen......HEAT!!!!!......figure out where the stress point is that you are going to move and apply heat, you don't have to get it cherry red but get it hot........I would suggest you take it off the bike but I know its a pain........
good luck

naw, he got lucky and the aluminum held up. im not shure if there is a "good way to straighten it, i know there are places you can take it that will straighten it out good as new, but it costs the same to buy a new one off e-bay.
