Oil Pan Bolt?
I did a search but coulnd't find anything.. I need to change the oil on my CBR and I am not sure what I should torque the bolt in to, after i'm done. On my last bike I over torqued it and cracked the oilpan
What do you guys usually put it at?

nah just cross thread it then hit it in with a hamer or you could get all hi tech and do wot a work shop would do EI:Just do the fu(ker up so it is abit more than hand tight and go ride
it aint all that hard is there any oil comin out? no then it will be fine.

Dude,
It's just a freakin oil drail plug I go with tight but not forced, It don't need to be mega tight it won't come loose and if it does,,,tighten it again. It's not like you won't know.

Re: Oil Pan Bolt?
I must set a record for stupidity.. I overtorqued this bolt, just like on my other bike but it didn't crack the pan, I don't think.. It just went tight, and then jerked and went loose. It still holds in the bike, pretty tight, a little oil forms on it, but not enough to make it an emergency. I think I may have just stripped the threads on either the bolt or the hole. Can I get a tapered bolt or something that will cut its own threads?

Re: Oil Pan Bolt?
theres something you need to learn before you think about picking up another wrench. its called "snug", same goes for just about anything else that isnt holding the bike together. from now on, you should use a 1/4" drive set so that you wont overtighten anything. the only time youll ever need a torque wrench is when you assembling an engine/transmission, which i would suggest that you dont attempt for a while.
as to the plug, pull it out and check. odds are you stripped the pan, which is usually aluminum and the plug is steel. go get a tap thats the correct size/pitch and try running it through there and maybe it will tighten up. i wouldnt try to use a tapered plug or anything that like that unless you absolutley have to. dont force it or else youre gonna be buyin yourself a new oil pan
