arrghh!!!!!! changing stator cover!!
boy am i pissed/annoyed.
my bike when i bought it had a cracked stator but it looked as if it was JB welded. nothing leaked fine. when im in tight parking spots, i flip the bike 180 on the kick stand. so i was at the bank, i always have it under control, but this time it went down. what pisses me off the most is that i was a click away from getting a cage the other day, but didint cause i had to use that money for a phase converter for my milling machine. ANWAYS, i just got a buy it now stator and gasket new on ebay for 68$ shipped and tmorrow if i can im ordering my cage, if not monday. first thing i thought of when i dropepd it was "if i had a cage, this would not be a problem," that swhat made me most annoyed. by the way... the bike was easy to pick up, and i weigh 120 lbs LOL
now, i do my own TIG, MIG welding, milling mahcine fabrication etc. so i turn my own wrenches, but i never changed a stator cover before. someone told me oil drips out, while im at it, im gonna change the stator cover, put the cage on and change the oil and filter while all the farings are off, clean **** up etc.
do i just unbolt and bolt the new one on? im guessing so.... figured i'd ask

Re: arrghh!!!!!! changing stator cover!!
yeah i cracked mine during a wheelie after laying it down.. not hard at all just bolt on bolt off.. yes all your oil may run out... and if you filter hasn't been in there that long you can go ahead and leave it... remove the fairing and just unbolt it... oil drips/drains then you can fill it back up where it needs to be. Piece of cake

Re: arrghh!!!!!! changing stator cover!!
im gonna change my oil.
yes i can weld BUT i havent been around cages, so my bike fabrication skilz are at 0 now. i do all my own stuff, so maybe if i see somehting the cage needs, ill mak emy own in the future. but i havent seen em in person enuff to visually absorb everyhting i need. i honestly would have to staret literally at a cage on a bike for a godo 2 hours just to absorb. my way of fabricating.... luckily powers seems to be a proven cage, i like their design teh best so it doenst hurt me as much to buy somehting i know i could probably make

Re: arrghh!!!!!! changing stator cover!!
I had to change my stator cover, its easy stuff, just dont strip the bolts like i did. stripped the bottom one and now i cant tighten it enough to get a decent seal. damn things been dripping ever since and i'm too lazy to go get new bolts for it.

I changed my stator cover on my 99 RR and now the bike wont start. Its got plenty of juice and I can here something spinning but the bike is not cranking over. When I hit the starter it makes a loud click under the seat and I think the starter is turning but its not cranking. Someone help, please!
