standups, form help

when doing stand ups do i want to lock my arms and legs, or keep them bent? also once the wheel is up i see a lot of guys kinda cranking their wrist, like on/off gas to keep it up...that good to do? i can get it up but usually it falls back down after a few seconds which leads me to believe im not staying steady on the gas...
