i was just wondering what you guys are running for engine temps with your shortsys. i just put mine on, and it seems that my engine temps are higher, and my fan is on more often. did i increase backpressure by shortening the chamber, or increase it. i dunno about you guys, but my can has two chambers, not much packing. i cut one off, and welded the end piece back on. the new chamber is much shorter, and the gas must flow in a different direction quicker now, the way its set up. its hard to explain
any help would be greatly appreciated

i guess its not running as hot as i thought, i think it was just a combination of the heat and the slow traffic. i really like the sound, its got kind of a crackle when i let off the gas. would you think that i may have gained any HP? im not sure, it feels like i may have, but its probably all in my head. oh well, either way it looks pretty I'll try to get some pics posted soon.

ur not doing anything to the back pressure when u cut the pipe only when u gut it thats when u loose pressure.........it shouldnt effect ur temp

Heres my project before and after. I had my bike rejeted so changing the pipe didnt make to much of a diff. The new sound is cool though, but it does make a crackle sometime when just cruising but I dont feel any power gaps.

yeah, just use somethin like a band saw that cuts quickly to keep the edges clean

does gutting your pipe hurt it in any way? Does shortening just change the sound of the exhaust, or does it do more? What is the purpose?

I was thinking of gutting mine. When i drag i slip it off for more flow and power and is way too loud for everday riding.

Dont gut it.. that will make is SOO f-ing annoying. No one will want to ride with you! haha.

Shorten it for 12ve and bar trick so it doesnt scrape, leave the packing in as well. Other then 12ves, theres no reason to shorten it.

ya, shortening it will alter the way the sound waves in the can move which can cause it to backfire when you let off the gas real fast. also does that because of the backpressure change. with less packing it'll decrease backpressure. kinda like why a truck with straights cackles.

it won't be anyhting to change jetting on. you do'nt need to change jetting until you change the pipe itself, because that is where all the flow is really controlled. even running with no silencer isn't changing the flow THAT much, which is why i laugh at the drag guys that do it. unless you put a high flow header on, taking that can off isn't helping one bit.

and no, it won't run the bike hotter for your initial question. i was going to ask if you noticed that it's gotten warmer outside lately....

hey guys i got an 02 f4i with a stock exhaust. im starting to 12 and i need a step by step on how to shorten it, what will be inside the pipe, wat i remove wat i dont remove , etc. all ur help is appreciated thanx alot. Also wat do u recoomend to use for cutting it. plasma torch, cutting wheel, band saw, hack saw???

Your stock pipe is welded and there is no tip you can drill off and re-revit. Buy a banged up pipe off e-gay and shorten it.

oh yeah- to cut it i used an air-wheel thing.. hows that for technical! haha
