929 Fuse Problem

well i got the 929 runnin and licensed today so i took it out. i went through 4 fuses this is the first time i have rode it on the street and the fuse for the gauges and tail light keeps blowin. It says its supposed to be a 10 amp fuse to run both the tailight and fuses but i went through 3 10 amp fuses and i put a 15 amp in there an it blew too. i rode it for about 20 miles before the first blew and then all the rest blew after riding like 100 yards. I unhooked the gauges so now i dont have gauges but i have a tailight. anything similar happen to any of you? do ya know why this would happen? any help would be appreciated.

Re: 929 Fuse Problem

Look around for any frayed wires......if there frayed tape them up and you should be good. I had the same problem.

Re: 929 Fuse Problem

you've got a short somewhere in the wiring harness. i would start looking from the back of the tach. if that dosent pan out, start from the tail light and work your way forward. anywhere that wires have worn through the insulation is a suspect, tape 'em up with electrical tape and see if it fixes it.

Re: 929 Fuse Problem

all of these suggestions sound good. look for a bare wire that could touch to body ground somewhere.
good luck.

Re: 929 Fuse Problem

it is suppose to be a 10 amp.. i had this same problem last week... i just check all the wiring comming off the cluster and cleaned it up a bit, cuz the previous owner half-assed everything on the bike.. and the problem went away.

Re: 929 Fuse Problem

whats up man, I had the same problem with my gixxer, gauges would blow and if they didnt then the tail light, and after a while the head light would turn off and on, what it was is theres a plug that comes off the gauges in the front of your bike it was under the left fairing of my gixxer im not sure ware it is on the 929 I havent looked for it on mine yet. well that plug was shorting because some of the wires going in it were half azz coming out, so push them in a little and put a zip tie around the plug to make it stay together then put some silicone seal on the wires to make them not move out again and yopu should be good to go. befor you do all this mess with the plug a little make sure thats what it is, pull it out and push it in with the bike running.

Re: 929 Fuse Problem

well half a roll of electricle tape, a bottle of liquid electricle tape, and some zip ties later and it works like a champ. practiced for about 3 hours to day and wrecked about 10 times and still no problems, thanks!!!! i love the 929
