Unhappy Wheelie Help...

Whats up everybody. I am new to this forum. I have a question on wheeling??? I have a 2001 Yahama R6 and I cant wheelie for the life of me.. I try from first gear all the time.. I got to 7grand and crack the throttle it comes up alittle but then goes right back down... I also try clutching it in 2nd at 9 grand and cant get the bike to move.. The other issue I have is when I do get it up decently I get sort of nervous on where the balance point is so I let go of the throttle and she comes right down.. I am frustrated as all hell cause I am the only one in my group that cant wheelie. Any info on how to do this right would be great.. Thanks Joe
I am going to practice tonight alittle...

pratice pratice pratice..

try blipping the throttle to get a feel for the front end coming up. once you get comfortable with the front wheel being off the ground, then you can pratice clutching it up, so you can get the front wheel up to the balance point faster..

it's all about pratice and being comfortable.. don't expect to be riding standups for miles the first time you wheelie.. just be happy you're getting it even a few inches off the ground

I had the same problem you did, I couldn't wheelie i was pissed off. My problem was, I was trying to pull it up around 8500rpm in first. I learned my bike responds better around 5500rpm, I get it to that point, stab the trottle, let off and soon as I feel the suspension load up, floor that bitch, front wheel comes up easy.

ditto.. the nervousness will fade quickly after you lean how to consistantly get the front wheel up and keep it up..

clutch it, way more consistant.

and, keep that right foot over the brake and ready just in case. if you think you are gonna go over just tap it.

also, have someone video tape you, if you think you are high, you probably are only a couple feet off the ground. video helps a lot with stunts. shows you what you are doing wrong.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to keep practicing. I went out the other night for a few mins and tried. No luck. I try throttling it at 7grand so now I will try somewhere in the 5s. I will also keep trying to clutch. I seem to have more trouble clutching it, I can pick it up alittle clutching it, but cant do it in 2nd gear..

Hey bro...I'm in the same boat as you. I just came off a 2002 Kan-a-tuna. I could pop the front up on that very easily, but it only came up. The bike didnt have enough power to keep it up. (Sounds like a personal problem)

Now I am on a 2002 Gix6 and in 1st, i will holdsteady around 5,000 , crack the throttle slightly to load the suspension, no sooner do I let off the throttle, I am rolling right back into it and the front end comes up. I would say I get my wheel about 18-24 inches off the ground. I try to hold it out for about 20-25 feet. I am slowly getting comfortable with the wheel off the ground, but Ive only had my bike for 5 days!!

I blipped the throttle in 1st one day just to see...OMG. I thought I was looping. But my girl said it wasnt even over her head yet and she's 5'1!! I would say thats about 10 o'clock. I can also bounce it up while standing in first on the first try, and in 2nd i need to rap on the throttle a few times.

PRACTICE!!!!

clutching is the safest way.....throttling it up is the most common problem with looping.

it just takes time to learn clutching.

sit all the way back in the seat and lean all the way back, and use the clutch cause you can control your launch hella better with it
