GSXR1000 Standup Question

GSXR1000 Standup Question
I am hardly a stunter, but I love wheelies and have just started getting the hang of standup wheelies on my 2002 GSXR 1000. I can bounce them up in second and ride it out to the limiter. Yes, I know rev limiter wheeliez are gay, but like i said, I'm no hardcore stunna. I have been slowing them down lately by getting the front end higher and balancing more.
My question is this: For those that have a GSXR1000, what gear are you riding those really long standups in? Should I be shifting into third or are you just balancing them in second? ( I can't shift wheeliez for ****)
Also, where should my left foot be during standups? Passenger pegs, or normal pegs? Whats easier?

i have a friend that would bring his 1000 up in 4th and ride them out .
there is a guy here in dallas that has rode a 41 or 43 mile wheelie (i forget) on a 954 he rides in 5th.
video is on the sportbikehype DVD.
higher gear is better if you have the control and the power.

I don't have a 1000 but on any bike the higher you are the less ecceleration needed to keep your front up. Third gear would be smoother , but second gear would bring you down faster if you got to high for your comfort level. Take advantage of your engine compresion , it will help you balance.

When I 1st learnt standups on my G1k, I could ride 2nd gear out for almost a mile. Now I switch right on thru to either 5th or 6th and keep it there till the arms get tired. For highway standups I really like being in the higher gears b/c it forces you to rely on balance and control vs using the power to keep the bike up.
The bad part is that you dont have as much engine compression to help you bring it back should you go to far...which is why you need to keep that foot on or close to the rear brake.
Just my input......

Thanks guys!! Exactly what i was looking for. I'm going to keep working on using the rear brake to control the height, and then start shifting.
I just didnt know if you were keepin em in second and balancing em for the real long ones.
