636 engine knock help
got an 03 636 with 11k miles on it. when bike is cold an you first start it up engine knocks like crazy. but when bike warms up it goes away. bike runs fine and strong like it has no problems. i did put a manual cam chain tensioner in it thinking the stock one went bad, but it had no affect on how it ran. any 636 guys have this issue? is the bottom end starting to go on it?

Re: 636 engine knock help
just got the bike. rode it three times no problems. changed the oil cause i wasn't sure when it was last done. put 10w40 in it. rode it a few more times no noise. went lot riding and dropped it lightly on the cage. bike stalled and fell over. after i started it up the engine was making a little noise.
a theory i have come up with is piston slap. maybe piston is slapping but after it heats up piston expands making noise go away. i don't know might sound kind of crazy.

Re: 636 engine knock help
Both of my 03's did this. My 05' does this. There are 2 street 05's here at the shop that sound like this, 1 04' & a 07' zx-6r here that sounds like that too. Kawi's have noisy motors.

Re: 636 engine knock help
i'll try to get a video up. this wasnt a tick. sounds like piston is gonna come through block.
could it be valve clearance issues. you would think it would be more of a ticking if it was valves. i'm gonna have the valves checked on it and see what i come up with. no clue when they were last done. plus when i first got it, they sounded like they needed adjusted
