Clutch hub question

Just out of curiosity...

What exactly do the springs on the back of the clutch basket do?

Torsion dampner for the gearing?
Buffer for the two halves?

Had a bike come through with 3 of them broken into little itty bitty pieces. Rider grenaded the tranny so I know some of the force came back through the gears, but really don't know their purpose.

Any logical responses would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Clutch hub question

u where exactly rights its a damper... so when ya shift into gear it doesnt slam all the spinning action into the gears/crank etc.. just like your rear wheel cush drive. same thing shift into gear and it absorbs the clunk...
