Question spun rod bearings?

ive got an 05 gsxr 600.

i went on a long ride, and right when i came into town it bogged down when i did a leap of faith onto the tank and it started knocking, thought it was a bent valve so i measure em all, and altho i need a valve adjustment none of them were too bad, so i replaced the worst valve and all the valve springs, basically all head work since it was off. ha,ported polished the head and reseated the valves, still knocking, so i pull the oil pan off (which i shouldve done earlier) found tiny bits of copper. guessing its the rod bearings. sound about right? and if it is.. after dropping the motor, am i gonna need any special tools for anything when im tryin to get to the bearings and crankshaft???

any help would be nice. thanks!

Re: spun rod bearings?

haha welcome to gsxr life. You should be good with normal tools. You do any long of bp wheelies you need a stuntex oil pick up. I had the some problem with my 750 pos. Best bet would be to replace both main and rod bearings along with the crank shaft. make shure you take note of the bearing sizes, and make shure you plastic gauge all of them no sence in doing it twice.
With mine 10,000 miles later I need to replace cam chain and tentioner. If it has the hydrolic tentioner like mine while you have the motor out cap the oil line off and get a mechanical one they are better.

Re: spun rod bearings?

lol. thanks. yah, ive always had people tell me they're bikes have started knocking cause they never had a pickup, guess i thought my bike was different, and if ima have to change the crankshaft, i might as well look for a motor. they're almost the same price. lol. ronayers crankshafts are like $600. lol. but ill be sure to change all that. i wanna check the crankshaft before i have to buy one, what are my odds of having nothing wrong with the crankshaft? cause there was just a tiny bit of copper. and im guessin i have the mechanical tensioner, all it is, is a bearing and a spring in it. lol. thanks for the info.
