Front brake spongey then stiff

03 636..

The brakes will be fine while I am riding, then they will go spongey for like 10-15 minutes, then back to Stiff again....

Any thoughts?

Re: Front brake spongey then stiff

my guess is engine heat is warming brake lines enabling expansion. radiator is kicking on and their cooling down. cycle repeats.

stiff then spongy would be low fluid level, air, or bad seal but as you said spongy then stiff

probably need new lines

original brake lines braided?

Re: Front brake spongey then stiff

sounds like resi is improperly mounted and air is making it into the master then escapes back into the resi...

Re: Front brake spongey then stiff

or you may just need to change your brake fluid , old brake fluid gets hot and fades pretty quick but when it cools off it will work good again

The resi is sitting by the tripple real loose, just barley zip-tied on... U could be right about that.. and OMR the brake fluid is brand new.

Re: Front brake spongey then stiff

i always put it above , now i know there will be a million people that say they mount it under and have no problems but i have seen it cause problems so i always keep it above .

Re: Front brake spongey then stiff

well u can mount it any where debo.. just make sure no air can make it to the master.. and also when u say new brake fluid.. open'd container of brake fluid only has a shelf life of 2wks.. i mean u can use it for months. but its absorbed to much water from the air... so performance of it drops a great deal.

Check out lins.. how his lines are run from the resi to the master.. u gotta picture wherethe air will go when the bike is in a wheelie/stopy...
