Cool The almighty stoppie

I am new to this board and got a question you guys have probally answered a hundred times. I got the whole wheelie thing down but stoppies are imposing somewhat of a prob for me. I can get the *** end up fine but setting it down soft or ridding it out is a whole nother ball game. It goes up until i stop then slams down. Sounds like I might be f**king my suspension up. Is this normal while learning how to do a stoppie?

slammin the stoppie dow does ruin a bike, doin that often will crush your rear wheel bearings, but as you roll them out, you will set them down more softly, so once you get them, it wont tear your **** up that bad. you got a zx6, so I and anyone else would reccomend a steering stabilizer, they will save your *** cuz if you roll a nice high stoppie, the steerin WILL slap lock to lock and throw you off. i learned by watchin vids an mimicing the body movements. *** a few inches off the seat, decent speed like 35-40, dab the front brake till it comes up. dont flip, keep you arms stiff, but your body loose. PRACTICE gettin to the "balance point" dont look at the ground, look staight ahead. if you do that and hit about 100 stoppies, you see a vast improvement. make sure you are riding with someone who can do them well, to ask for advice as you go. good luck bro

XPnugget, thanks for the advice. I was considering ordering Scott's steering damper. Is that what you would reccomend?

A damper is a must, I don't know what that other guy is thinking (mrgsxr02). Buy, a damper you will never regret it. It depends on how much your skin is worth to you, whether you get one or not.
(Not to mention mrgsxr02 has a damper stock on his bike, you don't. Buy a scotts!)

Dude,
Your missing out on the main trick to a smooth stoppie. You need to stop your rear wheel from rolling while you have it in the air. you can tap the rear brake orpull in and let out the clutch. This stops the rear wheel from spinning so you don't get that bike slap/slam when you let the bike down. Makes it much smoother. try just comming in to one faster than normal and go real steady on brake until you feel like the front is compressed give a little bump with the ***** of your feet on the pegs and right when you feel the rear come up get a tap on the rear brake so the wheel stops. Yes you need a steering dampner too. Start small they will come. make sure you do them on a grippy surface with hot tires and the right pressure. All of these tricks should help you.

Scott's damper mounts in 5 minutes if you know what you're doing, only about 15-20 if you don't. If you buy a fork mount be prepared to take your sh*t apart and be there a while. I have a scott's on my 00 gixxer 750 (I left the stock one on too) and I love it. You can adjust it while riding and any time and if you take a hit or wreck, the damper won't take any damage. Fork mounts will break/bend a lot quicker. Then when you go to buy your second one.... you've just paid more than the Scott's in the first place. Don't pay more than about $400 off the internet. Good luck.
