Alternator Question

Alright, here's the deal...

I'm new to the boards and new to stunting...everybody seems to think it would be a good idea to get something like a cheap used dirtbike to learn A)how to work on and B)control.

I was looking into getting a cheap dirt bike, and found a guy selling a used
'94 suzuki rf900 for $1000, not wrecked...guy says it needs a new alternator.

How hard would that be to replace? Sound like a decent deal? If you were new to the sport, would you think it was worth it?

Re: Alternator Question

I dont think the alternator would be a tough fix, but i've never had to change one. i think a common answer on this site would be to start with a 600, or maybe more importantly a "proven" bike. even if you went older and cheaper like an old F2-F3 or something, there are plenty of people on this site that rock those (and quite well at that). check in the for sale forum as well. i know Ryan S has an F2 or F3 for sale cheap, and hes up in WI. not knocking the bike you are looking at, as just about anything should wheelie fine, but if you find you need stunt parts/advice on an unfamiliar bike, you might be kinda screwed. good luck man, do some more lookin around on this site too- tons of freakin info on this site!

Re: Alternator Question

I'm a tool and a squid at this point...

That's why I want to get an old bike, to learn about the mechanics, haha. I just know what the guy told me. He might be more of a tool than me, apparently...

Thanks for not being dicks and ridiculing me...
