What if you ran no oil........
Had whole bike apart, parts everywhere, re-did igp sensor, plates, etc etc etc drained all oil from pan, did the work, re-installed the cover. Started on new forks, (thanks Kyle) got them on and bike all together. started it, ran up and down the street, couple of blocks, heard loud ticking, **** **** **** didnt put the oil back in!!!!!! Put it back in and prayed everything is going to be ok. Now can anyone tell me what damage may have occured considering the brief time I rode it like this? Blown rings, etc etc etc should I be paranoid and tear the whole engine apart? I did notice a big loss of low-end power though cant pop it up as easy (Boggy!!!) Help if ya can peeps!!!! Thanks.

Re: What if you ran no oil........
I am no expert but I would be worried about rod and crank bearings. You could also score the cyls I suppose. I would say drain the oil to get any metal out first. Filter the oil and see what is in there. If nothing then keep riding it. If you get a lot of metal then tear it down and fix it.

Re: What if you ran no oil........
nice, put oil in it, ride it around for 10min drain the oil, if there is metal shavings in the oil you drain or in the oil filter...strip the motor down and fix. if there arn't any shaving anywhere, fill up with new oil and ride. if there arn't any shavings i would change your oil again after your next ride or two and check you filter for shavings again....soo pretty much what kerns said

Re: What if you ran no oil........
lol that SUCKS!
i've always been paranoid about doing that.
1. drain oil.
2. replace oil filter
3. do 1&2 again.
4. open oil pan and clean the oil pickup. (there 99.9% WILL be metal shaving in there)
5. put it back together.
6. REFILL oil...
basically, metal shaving will get caught in the oil filter and the oil pickup, u wanna clean/replace those a couple of times.
and then ride it 'till it dies.

Re: What if you ran no oil........
Alright here;s the update some shavings were in the pan and some drained, I took a pic of them because I dont know if its alot or a little. Now what is involved with fixing this Kerns you said "tear it down and fix it" help me understand what this involves. Oh and you wont believe what was in the pan also...... a freakin broken drill bit!!!! nice! only a 1/16 a centimeter long which is unbelievable.
On a side note when I was taking off the headers one pipe was only finger tight! Could that cause loss of bottem end power and the bogging?
Thanks for all your help everyone I really have learned a **** load about bike mechanics from you all and my constant fixing. lol

Re: What if you ran no oil........
lol, damn!
then that def. happened for a reason.
that drill but coulda fucked **** up.
one header loose will affect ur bottom cause you'll have a small leak, but it won't make a really BIG difference. did you get 4 NEW header gaskets and take the old ones out?
p.s. don't forget to clean the oil pickup.

Re: What if you ran no oil........
The tolerances on everything are gonna be off, resulting in power loss and increased heat. Bearings and rings ARE damaged. You would have to strip it down and measure with a micrometer.
It may run, ya, but it sure as hell decreased the life and performance.
But i can appreciate the sarcasm.
