My 97 was the same way for me. Would come up in first, I couldn't even slip the clutch in second, it would just bog down, but let me tell ya I put a jetkit in with a K&N and re-geared and now its HOLD ON TO YOUR ****. Go down 1 in the front and up 2 and you'll be up in 4th gear no lie. A lot of mine is technique, I need to get better, but the gearing just makes it that much easier.

yea that was an option i wanted to avoid because i dont have my balance point down so i wanted to keep a long gear if i gear it ill run out of gear faster but i might have no choice......

Another thing I forgot to tell you was to check those clutch springs. I was thinking my clutch was bad but when I got my cover off everything was fine. If you have a Vernier Caliper check your springs for the correct length. They should be no more than 1.92". Chances are they are the right length but the actual rate of the spring is not up to par. You have quite a few options that I would try if I were you. You can (cheapest way) go to your hardware store, and get 5 washers and put in front of the springs before you reinstall them in the clutch pack. Or you could get 5 new springs from somewhere, ie. Barnett springs ( about 5 bus a piece) and try those, OR you can mix and match some of the original springs with the factory springs. When I did this it made a HUGE difference. I could then clutch in 2nd, but I wanted to be able to get it up in 3rd and 4th so I re-geared. If you are wanting to keep the stock gearing, chances are go for the new springs. Good Luck!

Curt

P.s. don't stack more than 1 washer behind the springs, you'll take a chance on the spring binding which could be bad news. :D
