factory calls for valve adjustment at 15k miles... so if you're within 2k mile or so either way of that then I would look into it. Even if it's not the source of the problem maybe it can cut down on some of our damn kawi-clatter.

I couldn't tell ya... i'm pretty sure you need shims and a feeler gauge but I wouldn't even know where to begin working on this new fangled contraption. I took it to the guy I bought the bike from (bike mechanic... owns a small bike shop) when mine had 11k on it and he didn't even bother adjusting the valves (even though I asked) because it didn't call for it yet per the manual.

u need feeler gauges, the way to do a valve ajustment requires taking off the valve cover and messureing the distance between the cam shaft lobes and the shim buckets at TDC and BDC. you write down each clearence and see what is in n out of range from what the manual says. then you have to find out what shims are in there so you know what new shim sizes you need. also removing Cam shafts for the first time with out anybody there that knows what they are doing can cause serious headaches...

I just had the same thing with my f4i recently, got down and listen for a long while, revving revving, guess what it was..... cage bolt had loosed up a bit after landing on its side a couple of times in the lot. If you ride with a cage check that.
