cbr 900
just last month i looped out bad on my 97 RR. but it was my own bonehead move. i had my idle set at 4000 rpm for slow whelies... AND FORGOT when i went to bang a normal stand up. it came back so quick that i was walking towards my smoking pile before i knew what happened. since then my standup have gotten alot better, smoother, slower, cuz you just gotta bag em HIGH. my boy billy can consistantly make his taillight DISAPPEAR sitting high char. its mostly in your head. keep it in 2nd in a stand up at a slightlly higher rpm at like 40 45, and creep it, 99 times out of 100 engine braking alone will bring you down with a slight closing of the gas

how common is common sense?
it's not hard to do anything, if you are being stupid then you'll probably loop.
cover the rear brake, don't go crazy, tkae baby steps at learning and you won't have a problem. I've only saw very very few wheelies actually loop. Almost all wheelie wrecks (including my own) the rider gets thrown off when the tail or bar hits and the bike falls forward because of engine braking, or the bike will go crazy sideways and fall over and highside.
