But for $75 w/ new oil etc thats not bad

Yea definately take them somewhere, if you don't know, you will need a seal driver....and it's a pain in the ***. In fact I learned the hard way. Finally got steep gearing, rode three times, and blew them bitches....Two tries later, I still haven't been able to get the new ones to seat. I have multiple bikes so I haven't messed with it for a bit, but I am going to take my forks somewhere too, and I don't give up easy.

You Dont Need Any Speacial Tools. Go And Buy Your Seals, You Will Need About A 1 1/2 Inch Pvc, Use This As A Seal Driver. Do You Have A Clymer Manual ????? If So This Is A Peice Of Cake If Not You Need To Check Some Of The Old Threads. Trust Me On This Im Not The Smartest Guy And I Just Did It Yesterday.

Re: busted fork seals
Yea, I actually turned a big piece of brass pipe on the lathe to fit perfectly over my tubes...made my own tool. Works great too.
The bike I'm working on has old style forks, not inverted and after 3 wheelies or so, they are pushing out a touch and leaking oil again.
After repeated attempts to seat them, they won't f 'n seal/stay in place.
And I paid extra for the "never leak" ones. I must not be doing something right although the professionals that I have talked to, tell me that sometimes they don't seat good and have to be redone. Hell I'm just ready to ride the damn thing for longer than 15 min.

how many of you guys change your seals right away when they start leaking? reno is getto so they put some medical gause on there just to keep the oil off their tire and call it good. my seals are leaking on my f4i and i was just thinkin about just leaving em on til they're finished off.

Re: busted fork seals
Seals will leak if they are put in wrong (of course) some other things to think about....Your seals will also leak if your bushings are wore out letting your inner tube 'wobble'. Also check to see if any dings or scratches have left pieces of metal sticking up on the fork tube...when these pass under the seal they will cut it. I race dirtbikes and the most common seal leaking problem is from dirt getting under the seal and not letting it seat on the fork tube. I use a business card and stick it underneath the seal (between the seal and the fork tube) and twist it around a few times...this removes all the dirt that has accumulated. 85% of the time its dirt (at least for dirtbikes) that causes 'spewage'. A professional needs to handle the forks. They install the seals correctly and should look for the scratches/dings that would cut your seals (these can be sanded out)..they would also use the correct oil height and so forth......if your not familier with working on them its not worth you time, money and head ache to attempt service yourself....

Re: busted fork seals
If you do drive them in yourself use your old seal between your homemade drive and your new seal.....if you have inverted forks you will need to cut your old seal off once your done.
