954 forks on f4i
i just installed a 954 front on my f4i and it feels like it has anti lock brakes when i'm braking hard for stoppies and even braking for rolling burnouts. i've checked the runout on the rotors and its between .002-.005". i've replaced the pads and loosened up the triples an axle bolts and tightened from bottom to top. still does it. i also did the check where you roll backwards and tap the front brake to see if the steering nuts are loose.
i'm fricken clueless already. please help......

if that **** was outside for any period of time with a brake hose open, it doesnt take long for the calipers to corrode inside and the pistons can actually seize up in their bores. i have worked on dozens of bikes like these up north when people bought parts from cycle salvage places where they were laying around for awhile, sometimes outside.
(assuming that you bled the brakes properly and didnt add dot 5 to dot 3 or 4)

Re: 954 forks on f4i
i was thinking it could be the calipers but when i checked it the pistons moved in and out no problem and when i pumped the master they all came out pretty evenly... is there other ways to check the calipers to see if they went bad... oh an the front end is 1 yr old an been sitting ever since, still had the knobby stuffs on the factory tire.

Re: 954 forks on f4i
DOT 5.1, like DOT 3 and DOT 4, is a polyethylene glycol-based fluid (contrasted with DOT 5 which is silicone-based). Fluids such as DOT 5.1 are hygroscopic and will absorb water from the atmosphere. This degrades the fluid's performance by drastically reducing its boiling point. In a passenger car this is not much of an issue, but can be of serious concerns in racecars or motorcycles.

the fluids will mix with each other but it is probably a good idea to get fresh 5.1 in there.... you can crack the bleeders and let it gravity feed down thru the res. just dont let the res go empty or it will suck air.. then bleed really really really good and that will probably fix it..

ok so how do i flush out the system so that i am using jus 1 type of fluid. the guy at the shop i got the 5.1 from sed the 5.1 has a higher boiling point so it would be better. what would you recommend.

Re: 954 forks on f4i
i had the same problem when i replaced my brake hoses because i got fluid on the pads during the bleeding process. even cleaning them did'nt help, had to replace the pads.

Re: 954 forks on f4i
Get the 5.1 out of there asap. **** is bad for everything

If you're using anything but Motul RBF600 you're wasting you're time.
