Peg reinforcement? (snapped a peg bolt today)
So, today was one of the first days it was actually warm enough to melt the ice, so, of course I was ridin. After a few endo's and several highway stand-ups we got to our "lot" and it was time to slow things down. On my second wheelie, right before I got to BP, my peg bolt snapped. It sheared off right where the threads start inside the aluminum bracket. Luckily enough, I was able to hold things together and didn't go down.:YEAH
Anyway, my question is this.........What do any of you do to prevent this possibly fatal equipment failure? I realize these pegs(stock) aren't made to withstand the abuse of 230 pound men(or women ) bouncing around on them, but I've definetly seen way bigger dudes than myself rockin wheelies. Other than replacing the hardware w/ grade 8 bolts, what would you do?

For one thing, always torque any hardware to reccomended specs... once you over torque a bolt it will lose structural integrity (it'll snap real easy).
90% of the time hardware failure is due to over-torque.
Those rear set mounting bolts only get something like 30 or 40 nm's... not much. I've had more problems w/ snaping cheap cast rear sets than steel mounting bolts.
Then again... I'm only 180. So if your 230... I'd get some billet rearsets and upgrade to some hardened grade 10.9 mounting bolts.

Re: Peg reinforcement? (snapped a peg bolt today)
I have never had to disassemble my peg from the rear-set, so it was at factory torque specs. Billet rear-sets and hardened hardware are definetly going to help, but then my question leads to this........What are the strongest pegs on the market? (cause I know those like to snap too)

i've seen the levelx video and matt gorka talked about how he weighs 200lbs and has busted many upon many footpegs, and uses only dirtbike ones now, so that might be something to look into

I am going out today and rigging something up to structurally make both sides stronger. I am getting aluminum dowel and drilling and tapping them. I am tapping them to the same thread as the original peg bolts, just purchasing new ones that are an inch longer. All you have to do is cut two lengths of aluminum dowel to the size between your passenger peg brackets on the sub frame. Then drill the recommended size hole for the tap. TAP TAP tapperoo and you have super strong passenger peg brackets. Then you can upgrade to grade 8 bolts and never worry about anything...except the actual peg bracket.

^^^That's what I was thinking when I read that post. He should check out powers new "subframe cage" or whatever it's called. I got one on order.
