Re: Sprocket Install

changing out a sprocket is cake. just a matter of a few bolts really. some bike chains come stock with no master link so you might have to cut it and just buy a new master link. they're pretty cheap

Re: Sprocket Install

if ur chain has a master link u will be abale to see it...just keeping spinning the wheel till u see a clip on one of the links....if u see this clip, pop the clip off and push the rest of the link out the chain...real easy....first time can be a booger if the master link clip is real strong...i use a really sharp flat head screwdriver to pry the clip off....BUT<<< if ur chain doesnt have a master link..u can cut it off like somone else said and buy a new chain, or get a new master link...can be bought at any local dealer

Re: Sprocket Install

Like he said, look for the clip, but usually the "master link" on a stock chain is actally riveted on. in that case you'll still have to cut it. you can choose to buy a rivet master link or the clip ones.

fyi, when the clip is top side, the opening should be facing back to keep it from getting knocked off.

Re: Sprocket Install

why not loosen your adjustment and see if you can get the chain off with out takin it apart......if you cant, you will probaly need a longer chain if you are goin up in the rear.

Re: Sprocket Install

if your using the same chain there is no need to cut chain. Just put it back on like you took it off. But, I don't think a +6 will fit with stock chain. +3 max would fit. Depends on how streched your chain is. Ebay has good chains cheap...

Re: Sprocket Install

I just did this the other day with a friend
The cage got in the way of the front sprocket so
we wedged the wrench in the cage and I had to sit behind the bike and turn the back wheel to loosen and tighten the sprocket
I need some power tools.
