bleeding handbrake

how hard or impossible is it to bleed a handbrake with a splitter? just because i would like to be able to do it myself...also DOT 3 or 4?

Re: bleeding handbrake

Dot 4 for sure, and it's not that big of a deal to do it yourself, you'll be fine.

Re: bleeding handbrake

@ first it was a ***** and it seemed to be taking forever ,because I was pumping the handbrake and trying to bleed it at the splitter. What you have to do is ,just bleed it at the rear caliper as you normally would (pumping the brake pedal) keeping an eye on the res. making sure theres always fluid in there( you can only use DOT-4 3 will lose pressure /get spongy) after a short while the new HB line will fill up w/ fluid after the original RB line fills up. Then you can pump the HB and try to bleed it at the splitter ,but you probly wont need to. dont give up it takes a while to fill those lines a MIGHTY-VAC helps! good luck..

(Oh and with a splitter ,both Hb and footbrake share the same resivior so if you want to go from foot to hand or vise versa you have to be completely off of one before you can use the other)

Re: bleeding handbrake

sounds easy, just might take awhile..i have a master all i need is a lever and rear brake line and its on haha....thanks guys ill let you know how it works out i think ill be fine...that makes sense though, i was going to bleed the HB line first but if the resivour is at your bars it has to go through the hb line first...

Re: bleeding handbrake

what brake fluid did you use? I just picked a bottle of this valvoline syn power

it doesn't say wtf DOT# it is though, all it says is 'excedes DOT 3 and 4'... I;m pretty sure it's not DOT 5 because it says for use in systemsusing DOT 3 or 4, when the DOT 5 said only for use with systems that came from the factory w/ DOT 5. So I dunno if this is DOT 5.1 or what?
