Bike has little spark...need some help.

Having problems with the ZX6R after the engine swap.

Went through the carbs just to make sure.... Then set the tank and cranked forever....All I can get is some backfiring throguh the carbs and an occasional burst of flames out of the pipe.

The bike is a 98 and I believe the motor is a 99.

Changed the crank sensor. (the woring was different on this bike, so I put the original back in. Just changed the wiring on the new one, and put it into place...(still nothing)
Checked the spark. Cyl 1 and 4 have just a little spark, and 2 and 3 are good. Swapped the coils, just to make sure, and the same result...

Where should I start with this one?

Thanks for the help guys...

You sure the plug wires are where they need to be? Ie. the correct firing order. You sure the timing is right on the new motor???

Re: Bike has little spark...need some help.

I guess the problem there is that I don't know how to check the timing.
The plug wires were never unplugged from the coils....They are still factory so nicely numbered 1,2,3,4 from left to right.

Re: Bike has little spark...need some help.

you'll need a timing light,

changes from 98 to 99, input from motorcycle online.

The ignition system has a new central processing unit for quicker response to engine needs. The rotor has three times as many projections (increased from 4 to 12 projections), helping to update the processor more often. The processor itself has been upgraded from 8 bits to 16 bits. The all-new ignition timing map matches the other engine changes. New stick-type ignition coils draw less current and charge faster to aid starting. The clutch cover, head cover, oil pump cover and sump pan are now magnesium instead of aluminum, saving weight. Cam sprockets are thinner to reduce weight as well.

try changing the ignition rotor and pickup to the one that went with the CPU you have on the bike.

After reading that steve. Do you have the ECU from the new motor? You may need that.
