GSXR overheating

me and my buddy tried everything. we flushed it and filled it up with engine ice, rigged up a fan switch, replaced the thermostat, took the thermostat out. nothing. total garbage. were talkin major overheating, gets up to 256 at the spot, and when just riding around town its always between 225 and 240.
reguardless of how hot or cold it is outside.
not to mention, my battery kept getting drained somehow, so i bought a new one and it still seems to not be getting recharged by the stator or magneto or rectifier, whatever the ***** charges it.
maybe its time for a whole new motor or a whole new bike....

Re: GSXR overheating

radiator cap? are you 100% that your radiator isnt blocked somewere? head gasket mabey? this may sound stupid bro, but when you rigged your fan up did you do it correct so it sucks air into the radiator rather than blow? they a few things i would be checking. good luck. .

Re: GSXR overheating

i felt the radiator and there are no cold spots, and yeah the fan is blowing in the right direction, the only possible thing i can think of is the water pump

Re: GSXR overheating

Seriously sounds like a water pump, but you need to check the stator for resistance with a multimeter........ normal will be .2 to 2.5 ohms. A high resistance will result in a high temperature. Although it may not be the main problem, its probably contributing to the high temp.

Re: GSXR overheating

I know from automotive if you have a Bad Cap then it will show signs of over heating because it leaks. My bud is a GM tech and my other buddies FireHawk was over heating and he went through everything BUT THE CAP. Bought a B-New one and Snap problem was gone. Get a friends cap off one that you know is good and try it. Water pump and ect are a Biotch so try it first.

Plus its and 03 I have an 01 and 220 the fan kicks on and it very rarely breaks it but its fairly new so it could be simple as the seal.

Re: GSXR overheating

how do the fins on the radiator look? sounds stupid but I was having same issue looked down and noticed like 3/4 of them were bent (folded into themselfs especially in front of the fan) spent like 6 hours with a pick straitening them. but it made the needle drop about 1/4 " freeway and street/spot.

Re: GSXR overheating

i took the cap off when the bike was cold and started it up, and the liquid moves like a river so i think the water pump is probly fine,
as for the cap i havent tried using a different one but the bike is steetfightered now and nothing seems to leak from the cap.
i took the fairings off and went with an acerbis headlight to try and improve airflow, which has helped quite a bit but it still overheats like a b1tch.
i do have a kn filter and full exhaust and the bike runs rich as hell some people are telling me that may be it, i get flames n **** shooting out my pipe sometimes.
