voltage regulator is really hot?
I was workin on my bike yesturday, letting it run, and I noticed my rectifier was super hot. I checked to see if the wires were grounded or unplugged but everything looked in order. this is on an f4i. if anyone else has experienced this let me know. btw the bike still starts everytime

Re: voltage regulator is really hot?
it shouldn't be that hot.. get a voltage meter. or an ohm meter and see what it's at.. something isn't right there.. 150* will burn right through your plastic... just get a new one you chomo! will an f4 one work? if so i got the hoooook up!

Re: voltage regulator is really hot?
high amperage= heat
you have a mutimeter? check resistance to ground (at rec), stator AC output, and resistance between the three wires (at stator conector, unpluged). If its charging the rec is fine. (its just a series of diodes)
...but yanno they do get a little hot normally...

hey crotch see how hot yours gets. mine I can only touch with my hand for a couple secs before I have to let go

Re: voltage regulator is really hot?
check charging= put red multi. lead on + terminal, black on -. checking dcvolts. start bike, should read about 13v at idle and raise as your rev motor.
should be 0 at negative on rec.
should be 0 at negative on rec.

Re: voltage regulator is really hot?
the charging reads 13.8-14.0V
i cant check the resistance because i cant undo the plug w/ my broken wrist
i noticed the wires to the reg. are not hot and look brand new, but the wires out of the stator get really hot fast

Re: voltage regulator is really hot?
all reg/recs run hot in general...but this thread is about fussing/fiddling with piddly **** while your out with a broke wrist, right? the pic of the cpu fan was just for ***** and giggles, I don't think its worth going to those lengths to cool your reg, but some people just like to modify ****. whatever you wanna do I guess, you could probably even modify your reg to work as a vaporizer, and btw it's a good thing there's 120vac bouncing around in there, if there was 60vac there'd be twice the amperage and like was previously stated it's amperage = heat ....high voltage is a good thing:YEAH
I think you mean mean F4 right?...not F4i?.... the F4i has different plug connections cause of the different wire harness on the F4i. the F4i reg has two plugs coming off it. the extra plug feeds the fuel injection system I imagine? seems to me the fi would draw more current so the f4i reg might put off more heat and might be built to handle more load, it has cooling fins, the f2/3/4 reg doesn't... so splicing an f4i reg to an f2/3/4/900 etc might not be a bad idea but I wouldn't do the opposite...without a go go gadget copter setup that is

I have an f2 regulator on my 900.
