Re: Anodizing Questions !
anodized parts don't last long from what i was told. i was told the parts have to be real clean and free of imperfections or eles it turns out like garbage. you could get it powder coated last longer than anodize parts will just my 2 cents.

so if you polish your frame then anodize it will it turn out better ? And is there some sorta clearcoat or something you can put on to make it last longer ?

Re: Anodizing Questions !
you can anodize all that stuff, just know when you anodize things, any blemish or imperfection will be alot worse once anodized. anodizing makes things like ten times worse. if you have a barely noticeable smudge, once its anodized it will stand out like mad. and the better the finish before anodizing, the better it will look once done, so a polished peice will look better than a cast piece. i think your biggest problem is gonna be finding a company with a big enough tank to dip your frame. and for a somewhat affordable price. you could just polish the stuff or chrome it. some one said chrome makes the rims weaker, now im not sayin that isnt true, but ive never heard of it making things weaker. because adding metal to almost anythign makes them stronger, unless you plate something thats meant to have flexability. because it make the material more rigid. chrome is actually used on many parts to make them stronger, like some bearing surfaces etc (jet engines). the only time chrome makes things weaker (to my knowledge) is with heat disipation (like exhaust pipes, turbo housing etc) because it make it harder for the material to disapate heat, which is why alot of chromed two stroke pipes crack easier.i guess the only reason i see it making them weaker is cuz you have to sand the casting mark off the wheels, but that what youd have to do if you polished them, so theyd be no weaker than polished wheels. but im interested in why it makes wheels weaker. cuz this would be new to me. but if you want them stronger you can always hard anodize the parts. but its alittle more expensive than regular anoding.

Re: Anodizing Questions !
You cant anodize CAST parts or anything with welds on it........Aluminum must be solid BILLET to be anodized...If you want the adodized look on a frame you must use a anodize look powder coat.

Re: Anodizing Questions !
Shock bodies are cast and we get them anodized all the time.
Anodizing holds up a lot better than powder coating. That's why forks and dirtbike rims are usually anodized from the factory.
But powder covers imperfect stuff a lot better.
Be aware any coating will add a little thickness to your parts. We usually have to hone out fork tubes and shock bodies when they come back.
I'll talk to our coating people tomorrow and see if they can anodize a frame.
