954 Roller Bearings

Re: 954 Roller Bearings
early 02's... you mean the tapered rollers not ***** right?
Lotta peeps had em changed out... there was a recall (sort of) on the T-Roller bearings and the dealers swaped em for free. Said they made the bike a little too twitchy.
I had em on my 02 and could feel a noticable difference between the ***** on the 03... had to keep the scotts 2 clicks stiffer on the 02.
Why do you want em? Personally I thought they su*ked...

Re: 954 Roller Bearings
Well, I just got a 954 front end and I didnt know which bearings you were supposed to put in there on an f4i. I talked to HONDA and they said that the 954 and f4i bearings are the same thing (same part # and everything). So, I dont know what to put in there now. If the f4i bearings fit then Im good.

You have the right ones... sorry to confuse you... there are no races on the stem... i meant the lower bearing, my bad! All ya gotta do is use the bearings and races that are already in the f4i frame neck. You don't even need to touch or worry about the races.
If the 954 front end you have has a tapered roller bearing on the bottom of the steering stem... just pop it off w/ a chisel/screwdriver and re-use the one off of the f4i stem.
Here's what the lower tapered roller looks like....

Re: 954 Roller Bearings
A tapered roller bearing will only work with the correct tappered races.........A ball bearing will only work with the correct ball bearing race....To me it seems like you need to make up your mind on what type you want to use Then figure out what you need or dont need..... If you have either a set of tappered or ball bearings why not just use what you already have and not have to buy anything?

Re: 954 Roller Bearings
From what I know the F4i bearings will work you just have to get the lower bearing and race off the 954 lower tripple and replace it with the one off the F4i tripple. Or your other option is to buy a complete set of 954 tappered bearings, but then youd have to knock the outer races out of the neck of your frame to replace them with the 954 races.

To make this as easy as possible, just use what you have. The f4i ones work great and you don't have to spend a dime.
All you have to do is: if your 954 front end came w/ a bearing on the lower stem, make sure it dosen't look like the one I posted the pic of. If it looks like a regular ball bearing, then just bolt it up and go!
