spraying your own bike

I want to try and spray my bike (honda cbr ) completely black ..
I already called around and kinda got shocked those spray jobs are so expensive ( around 500 )
Dont wanne spend all that money..
So how you spray the bike yourself? What paint you use and what precautions do you take?

Re: spraying your own bike
I used a bunch of white spray cans I bought for $4 each. Haven't washed it since. Good from far...

if you sand everything down yourself 300 grit and drop it off to them prepped and ready to go they shouldnt charge more than 200 bucks. because all they'll do at this point is prime it, sand it again, paint it, clear it, buff it.
at least thats how it was when i dropped mine off at a maaco type place.
or option b is if you know someone with at least a 2 gallon compressor then get yourself a little book and it'll tell you how to do it yourself and alltogether with sprayguns and supplies it'll cost you around 200 bucks. so its 200 bucks either way but the question is do you want it to be done by a pro or do it yourself ? i'm a big time do it yourselfer when it comes to oil changes and stuff like that but in this situation i just wanted to get it done and i wouldve been too lazy to get around to it.

Re: spraying your own bike
I did that mistake of trying to buy everything. its a lil more complicated...u need a bigger compressor for the gun, or else it doesnt spray right. it ended up costing more than having it being taken down to a shop. well, i bought everything except the compressor, those can get pretty expensive, cuz u need one that powerful enough to break the paint right. i think u can do a hell of a good job with spray cans, you just have to be patient, and let lil layers build up. im painting mine with spray cans, it should look good, after going to a shop and having them lay down the clear, and buffin, that shouldnt be expensive. TIP: Dont sand ur tank to the metal, just a waste of money, just sand it enough to take the shine out, and prime, other wise u have to build all the layers back up.
