Repairing a cracked tank

I made about a 3.5' crack on my f4i tank while attempting a dent job. I'm gonna try to use JB-stik (puddy type JB-weld). Anyone tried this product before?http://jbweld.net/products/jbstik.phpAnyone have any tips on how to do a repair job like this?

-how do I keep the acetone from going into the crack while stripping off the paint? (tape, sponge?)

Re: Repairing a cracked tank

I have repaired several cracks in my f4i tanks the only way i found that worked perfect was to sand it down to the metal and use fiberglass to mend it back together it will not leak or flake off as long as you went to the metal. Most stereo shops can do this for ya if you already sand it down. The jb weld stuff with break do to vibration and etc. just my 2 cents

Re: Repairing a cracked tank

all those things will work but good but autozone has this stuff designed for fixing cracks and small holes in gas tanks it's like $5 and works great..as long as you sand the area around it down and clean it, it will be a good permanent repair...I have seen people use jb weld and it didn't last long.having gas *** sucks!!!

Try this stuff. I used it on my tank and have had no issues. You can buy it at Wal-Mart for like $3.

Re: Repairing a cracked tank

i used the JB stick weld stuff....it works for about a week at a time, then starts to leak through. Its a good quick fix while your at the spot because that stuff hardens in like 10 minutes, but its definatly not a good permenant fix
