I start at the back of the cap with a dead blow mallet, work my way around the back up to the front. Then I finnish up with little taps with a smaller(1' dia) plastic mallet and a regular carpenters hammer, just to smooth it out and get the final shape because I dont use bondo.

Ive done a couple more since then and Ive got even better at it, also changed up my det style. I dont go as far back anymore and I keep more of a lip at the back..
