Race Wheels For My Gixxer

Hey, What's going on? I have a dilemma.... I ride an '05 gixxer750 blue/white, black frame, swing arm and wheels. I want to change up the wheels REAL bad. It's my 3rd gixxer i've owned and i've never touched the wheels on any of them. Anyway i was thinking about sending them out and getting them chrome plated, but i heard that weakens them, makes them heavier and have the possibility of chipping, etc. So i was thinking just throwing some race wheels on it. I really need some help and education on this. I'm currently looking at two styles of rims from PerformanceMachines.com catalog. The Gold Anodized and Polished Aluminum, same style wheel, but the polished comes with a polished alum sprocket too (maybe too much crome for a black frame and swingarm?) The wheels are 5 spoke and branch off to a "V" shape opening at the end. I'm thinking the gold might give it that REAL race look, sort of like the '06 R1 LE's wheels. Any input, websites, and/or education on what i should do about some new wheels(keep the stock black one's?) would be great, Thanks A Lot And i hope ro hear from some of you fellow stunters....out, James in CT.

Re: Race Wheels For My Gixxer

The only reason why chroming would weaken your wheels is if they were stripped using an acidic chemical which unfortunately most platers do. Because of this all our stock wheels paint is not removed using this process any longer. Chrome wheels are a tiny bit heavier but the weight is not noticeable. If your wheels are plated using a one stage plate then they run the risk of chipping and flaking. The three stage process we use is far superior and we offer a 12 month warranty against chipping flaking and peeling so long as the wheel was well taken care of and cleaned properly. If you have any other questions regarding chrome wheels call Jim at chromeunlimited.com (714) 828 6260

Re: Race Wheels For My Gixxer

heres some pics of my R6 and my partners R1 no probs with chips or anything, i do track days on em they do just fine. If they weigh more youll never know it. I polished the rotors myself, the plating place did them the first time and polished the part where the pads grab they pulsed like a ****. so I bought some off ebay an hooked em up.
I love the chromies, the bike gets jocked a lot. :YEAH

Re: Race Wheels For My Gixxer

I will for sure be checkin that site out and thanks for the schooling on chroming, whew! yeah, other than 3rd and 4th gear highway stand-ups and an occasional rolling burner, i baby this bike, my 98 gixxer is my hard core stunter. Those rims on that R6 and R1 are EXACTLY what i'm looking to get! granted almost the entire bike is dark blue or black, including my yoshi trs bolt-on, i think a set of chromies will look tight spinning through that swingarm!?

One of my Marine customers has your same bike with a set of chrome wheels on it... Looks real sharp I'll try to find a picture for you.

John over at sportchrome is a good guy but unfortunately doesn't offer the same warranty I do and the price I have is cheaper...

As far as cleaning goes. Warm water with mild soap... And then spray with maguier's quick detailing spray with a nice wipe down shines all chrome up real nice.
