f4i with 929 forks?

Re: f4i with 929 forks?
The tapered bearings suck, they cause a ton of headshake and I wrecked a tank slapper cause of them. They were actually recalled too, so 03 should have standard roller, and so should any recalled 02.

Very true... I have an 02(no recall done) and an 03 and the difference is very noticable... I have to keep the scotts cranked up a few notches more on the 02. It's twitchy.

Re: f4i with 929 forks?
Thanks for posting up on my bearing question I guess I’ll go with the ball bearing triple instead of the barrel style bearing triple especially since I won’t have to deal with changing races if I stick to the *****

I'm in the middle of this swap...
To clear any confusion... 03 954 bearings and races are identical to f4i's and as said above, completely interchangable. Earlier 02's have the tapered, but most newer 02's had a recall done to change to the *****.
Only LARGE problem I've run into is: how the f*ck to you torque the bearing adjustment nut w/ out some special jap socket???

Re: f4i with 929 forks?
Yeah... that's what I used to get it off.
But your supposed to torque the nut to 30lb/ft, move the bars back and forth to seat the bearings, then loosen it up and torque it back to 13lb/ft.
I know I'm being kinda ****... but I'm gonna be rollin loooong stoppies on this setup, and it better be perfect. The hammer and chisel isn't gonna cut it for this one.

the tool you use is a spanner wrench. they make them with a square hole in them that you hook a torque wrench in. you can do that, or you can just get the big nut from honda that is made to do it. spanner wrench is cheaper. never hit it with a hammer and screwdriver, that puts improper torque on it and they will loosen up. torqueing something shouldn't be violent action, it should be smooth with equal pressure.
