Best way to rig a helmet cam?
My camera doesn't have a video in, so I need a way to rig it up either on my helmet or my body.
I was thinking I could use my white helmet which I never wear because it's pretty ganked. I could drill a hole in the top, then put a washer and bolt through the hole and thread it into the tripod mount on the camcorder.
I know it'll break if I crash and hit my head.

Well I successfully drilled the hole, I just need to make a trip to home depot to find the right size bolt. I'll have pics when it's done.

I know they're hard as ****! I think I'm not leaning over the front end enough, or maybe I need more gearing... Is a 70 tooth enough or should I go bigger and should I buy a wheelie bar in case my bike catches a back draft and loops on me !?!?

Re: Best way to rig a helmet cam?
i've got the best ghetto setup ever. I can't take a picture of it because it's loaned out right now.
I bought all of the parts at home depot. Buy the cheapest shelving bracket they have. It's like 4" on one side and 5" on the other and is made out of thin stamped steel. bolt the short side to the piece of the helmet that's right in front of your mouth. I used 2, 1/4" bolts. You'll have to make a spacer of some kind to put on the bottom of the bracket so that it will point the camera strait ahead... not down. I just pointed the bracket strait ahead with the camera on it and filled in the gap with jb weld. Finally bolt the camera to the top of the bracket.
This setup works perfect. The camera is right in front of my face, but yet i can see. It works great for filming other people since i can watch the view finder while filming and driving. The shot is very steady unless i'm riding on a bumpy road.

I like my borrowed helmet cam set-up........find someone with a helmet cam and borrow it, then hold the mini-dv's ransom if they want to see em, they have to let you keep borrowing it!!!! I have a JVC camcorder and actual helmet cam setup with audio(if I can find out how to rewire it)

Re: Best way to rig a helmet cam?
I got my helmet cam setup, my problem now is that it doesn't show enough of the bike or the road on the camera, and also when i ride i point my head down and keep my eyes up so I have more perhipheral vision and that makes for a shitty shot. A wide angle should help that though, if not i'll have to try that bracket method, and adjust it to where it points forward the way I ride.
