Gsxr motor toast or what??

Ok, so here is the deal. I was lubing up my chain on my 01 GSXR-600 tonight on the stand and as I turned the tire I heard this terrible clunking noise coming from, I think where the shaft for the front sprocket is, or in that area. As I spun the tire faster it got pretty loud. The bike has 40,400 miles on it. It still don't miss a beat or anything, still has all it's power and don't slip at all but, it sounds like a bomb ready to go. So is the motor or tranny pretty much toast or what??

It could just be the chain.

Re: Gsxr motor toast or what??

might want to check the front sprocket to see if the thread nut came off or is loose. It was loose on my friends bike which added to his 2nd gear going out or at the least produced an annoying rattle.

No the bike was not running.
Could it maybe be in the tranny??
Yea, with all the **** my bike has gone through, I am shocked it still runs. I rode it today and still feels good, but then again it was only 38 when I left for work.
