Fixing Rearset
My rearset as you can see broke in half during my crash... I'm extremly strapped on funds and alot of my friends have offered to weld, or brace it at least till I can afford to have it fixed.
I won't be putting alot of pressure on it like stunting or anything.... just simple riding for a month tops.
Is it possibile to weld this and make it so it's stable?

Re: Fixing Rearset
He says he can but alot of my friends say if it's aluminium that it's not possibile I don't want to **** it and not be able to brace it afterwards, etc.
If someone can look at that and tell me if it's aluminum or steel I'd appreciate that too.

Re: Fixing Rearset
first off: yes you can weld aluminum
second: you cant weld a rear set becuase of the way its made
third: you can get used rear sets for 30-50 and it would probubly cost just that much to have someone weld it if it were possible
forth: quit *****in, fork over the cash and buy one.
if you cant handle the fact that **** cost LOTS of money to fix, DONT stunt

Re: Fixing Rearset
You can weld a rearseat, just have to sand it back down... I did once to get my bike home from my work/stunt spot...but its pointless because when you weld cast alum, it crystalizes the cast, making it extremely brittle.
The weld will hold up like a champ, but all the material around it will shatter the first time you put any stress on it.
Bottom line, like f4stunna said, buck up and buy a used rearset.

Re: Fixing Rearset
to fond out if it is aluminum use a magnet *** clown, dee de dee. Metal , then mag sticks , aluminum mag wont stick, and yes you can weld them but not with a mig welder because it will crystalize you need a tig welder. Again as was said before must you post all retarded ? s in here ? next you will be asking which hair dye works the best for your new perm.

Re: Fixing Rearset
get it tig welded...it should last for awhile until you can afford to buy a new one, I had my shifter lever TIG welded recently, its been holding up fine...my buddy hooked me up and welded it for free :YEAH

Re: Fixing Rearset
it amazes me that you can figure out how to take pictures, load em into your comptuer, crop/resize em, and load em onto a website but you cant figure out how to use a damn ratchet

Re: Fixing Rearset
thats a really bad spot for the break. You cant brace it because theres no place for a bolt on the bottom chunk. And you can make a ghetto peg out of a large bolt because the shifter pivot would be too hard to duplicate. Time to hit up ebay.
