dead battery

ok, so it thought it was just a bad battery??? I even changed the rectifier.. I can push start the bike and ride it all night till it stalls...but as soon a it stops, no juice again?? Could it be the stator? I thought if the stator was bad, and the battery is dead it wouldn't run?

Re: dead battery

I would think that the battery is dead, since you can compression start it and it keeps running. If the stator was bad it would only run as long as the battery has juice left. Just my 2 cents.

Re: dead battery

your not gonna be able to diagnose a stator without the use of a multimeter. If you do have a multimeter, test the three yellow wires lead to lead testing ACVolts. They should be at least 20vac and within %10 of each other. I would also check for good conections from stator to rec, then rec to battery.

Re: dead battery

could be the starter also. If it is drawing too many amps, the battery won't push it.

Re: dead battery

im having the same problem, and changed stators, but not rectifiyer yet..... i can charge it and start it, but it's only getting 12.48 volts to the rectifyier, and the rec. isn't making more, so im guessing thats what it is for me......if you find out what it was for you be sure to post up what it was

Re: dead battery

fixed it this afternoon..... it was the plug that connects the rectifier, it had got real hot, and everytme i wiggled it the voltage to the battery would change. I took a screwdriver and closed the little clips in the plug more and put a zip tie around the plug itself, no problems since..
