Two master links???
K so gas prices are climbing and i'm tried of driving my car around cause i can't take my +13 f4i on the highways. I'm thinking about picking up a +3 rear for still street stuntability but also being able to take it on the highways. I don't wanna buy another chain but i'm gonna have to cut some links off my chain i got now for +10 rear. Soooo if i cut some links off and run one master for the +3 rear and then plop another couple links on with a second master link when i go back to +10 is that gonna be bad? Anyone else run two masters? They are clip type of course.

i have...i used to run 3 of them...i used them for an adjustable extended swing arm so i could get the right adjustment for whatever kind of riding i was going to do.....i never had any problems before....

Re: Two master links???
I think that having 2 master links on a +10 is not a great idea, its gonna have a lot more tension then a +3 and those 2 links are "weakest links" comes to mind.
I could be wrong i've never done it not even on a BMX it just sounds wrong

Have done it before no problems. It's easier just to get a smaller rear that's still a decent size like +10, then just get a +1 front and a -2 front and swap them out, works great. To the other guy it's actually easier on your chain when you have a bigger sprocket.

I run two links and they are just three links apart no problem just check it alot to just be safe. I use to have 14+ and 1 down. Ran on freeways all the time loud wasn't the problem it the going to slow that make you hate it.

Re: Two master links???
Just go up one tooth in the front when you need to spend alot of time on the street.
+1 more tooth in the front is like -3 out back so that'll be closer to +10 and that might be a bit more tolerable than your +13.
It'll also be easier to change the front sprocket than and or remove liniks to the rear all the time and change out the rear sprocket.
I run -1, +10 and it's not great on the street, but I can ride on the highway if I need to.
Just a thought.

Re: Two master links???
I dunno, i got another cushdrive where the sprocket mounts laying around. So picking put a sprocket for $35-45 and only having to pop the link off and take off a few and swap the cush doesn't seem that big a deal. Plus its not like i'd change it everyday, i'd leave it for probably a few weeks. Plus going back to stock in front doesn't really seem worth it, might as well just keep it +13 for that matter. But now that i know that running two masters is fine i'll just figure out the best way for me, thanks!

Re: Two master links???
I did the 2 master link thing on my f2 for a long time with no problems at all.
All these guys saying to swap your front sprocket must suck at putting the wheel back on. I takes 10-12 minutes to change the sprocket.
ps I hate riding around at 8-9k too

Re: Two master links???
Leave your front at -1, if you go to -2 it wears down your chain faster. The tighter a chain has to bend around a turn the faster it wears out.... so leave your -1 on the front, as for the rear run whatever works for you. But, I would try and get a sproket that you can still feel the pep from b/c going from a -1/+3,4,or5 combo to a -1/+13 will suck getting used to and you could loop it. A buddy of mine did that, rode for about 2 months on his stock gearing and went back to his -1/+20 (I think it was 20) and looped it that afternoon.
PS... two master links are fine, just run the clip type not the press fit crap.

Actually there's nothing wrong with going -2 on an f4i, it has a 16 tooth factory so -2 is 14. It's when you start running 13 tooth fronts that wear starts coming into play.
