What kind of Sprocket

I am building my first stunt bike, it is a 99 f4. I am a fairly big guy so stock gearing wont work for me. Does any have any advice on what kind of sprocket I need to get and how many teeth.

Thank you

Re: What kind of Sprocket

can you hold out a wheelie with stock gearing yet? If not then i wouldn't go big, it's just going to make your throttle more twitchy and is just gonna be harder for you, if you want it to come up easier i'd just drop 1-2 in front depending on your size until you get it down.

Re: What kind of Sprocket

learn to hold out long (mile or more) wheelies on stock gearing first, then think about changing it up. Your size shouldn't matter, just bounce it and go

I agree for the most part, if you do not have slow rolls figured out yet, the most I would got up is around 5-10 teeth. If you are needing sprockets, theres a company out of Dallas called Precision Motorycle Products. They have sprockets big and small for just about every streetbike out, as well as Dirt Bikes, and ATV's.

And they usually ship your order within 2-3 days, not like some other companies out there........

Call Kim at (888)Moto-Gear and make sure to tell her Big Scott sent ya for the extra hookup....

Re: What kind of Sprocket

gears are for engine brake, not standups. learn to use the brake before u start putting big gears on. and a 12 bar isnt gunna help much as far as breaking **** unless ur going under 15mph and from ur posts im guessing ur gunna be goin a whole lot faster than that. but def get a cage. at the most i would say go -2 up front cuz that will make learning to get it up a little easier but realisticly u dont need any gears, regardless of your size

Phil from Moto Heaven suggested I stort with a +10 on the rear and -1 on the front for my F4i...might be good for you too....I love it!

Re: What kind of Sprocket

My thinking was that if I can learn slow 12 wheelies, and learn throttle control and breaking. then it would be easier, and safer for faster whellies right?
Thats what dub-c of the streetfighterz told me anyways

Re: What kind of Sprocket

how heavy are you? i'm about 215 lbs and i have a ****ed up 98 zx6r with a blown headgasket and it will stand up with stock gearing at low and high speeds

i would learn 2nd gear standups first...i tried learning slow stuff before learning the 2nd gear standups and didn't get anywhere...so i went with faster 1st gear staggered standups and 2nd gears and it worked

so if you don't wanna crash start clutching 1st gear staggered and get used to it, or do it in 2nd gear....when you know the fast wheelies it's gonna be alot easier to learn slow 12's and slow wheelies

Re: What kind of Sprocket

I am about 260. I can bring it up in 2nd, but all I can do is power it through the gear. I havent been able to find the balance point yet without craping myself. It feels like it comes up way too fast sometimes. I will keep on it though

I called these guys, they're real cool, I have some friends that own a shop so I'm getting the 61 tooth rear sprocket at cost.

They said they'd ship it today unless they didn't have the cast or whatever then they'd ship it monday.

It's costing me less than 50 dollars..

Re: What kind of Sprocket

If you haven't found balance point yet in second, gearing is not the answer.

You think it comes up fast now? Gear up and watch your bike go skipping across the pavement.

Re: What kind of Sprocket

stock is more sluggish and forgiving, if you put a big sprocket on it (+10+), its gonna be touchy and nasty BUT you'll go at half the speed and have twice the engine brake.

everything stunting is a give and take.

if you turn your idle down real low for learning you'll have a ton more engine brake to save your ***, but when you set your wheelies down when your learning you'll come down HARD, where as if you run with a high idle 2500, it'll smooth everything out all around except your engine brake wont be strong and you better be handy with the rear brake
