rear brake failed on me

so last week i was doing wheelie and the rear brake stoped working, it went all the way down and couldn't brake so i got off the bike and started pumping the brake and it started working again...well now everytime i go to practice it happens after 10 wheelies or so, then i got to park the bike, pump the brake for a while and then it works again i noticed that bleeding the brake fixes the problem but how is air getting in the line when it's not leaking

anybody ever have a problem like this and how do you fix it?
the bike is a 98 zx6r

Re: rear brake failed on me

Your brake probably failed due to heat. If you use your brakes alot(front or rear) the fluid will get hot enough to cause any amount of air to expand. You shouldn't need it all the time. Have you changed the brand or compound of your rear brake pads lately?

Re: rear brake failed on me

your probably boiling the brake fluid. After brake fluid boils once it will boil easier. the best thing to do is replace all of your fluid and use the brake less.

Re: rear brake failed on me

when i learned to slow wheelies down i would have my rotors glowing..and the calipers so hot if i poured water on them it would instantly boil away..id loose a lot of braking power but not totally..id check to make sure theres not a leak somewhere letting air in.

Re: rear brake failed on me

You could have a slightly warped rear rotor. Warped rotors push on brake pads causing a larger gap between pad and rotor after rotating for a while. Might be worth a look.

sounds like a good way to crack your rotors.

i agree with everyone saying the fluids boiling. i change my brake fluid about every month, haven't had a problem in awhile.
