r1 2001 no power.. any ideas?
i have a 2001 r1. it runs smooth dosent seem to misfire. plugs are all light brown. pulled carbs and cleaned. its runs smooth and sounds stong. however it has no power. i cant even clutch it up in second no matter how hard i try.i was wondering if that valve in exhaust could cause it? its all stock w/ about 8000k. any ideas where to look?

besides wheelies, how does it feel accelerating in a straight line. Say you pinned it in 2nd and went all the way to redline, what happens? Does it bog down at all? sounds like it might just be operator error, but idk

no definatly the bike. i could get it in 3rd no problem before. i was using the example to give ya an idea how it was lacking. its not slipping. the bike was looped in a tank wheelie early spring. destroyed all the plastic. the tank got crushed. i rode it streetfighter for few months while plastic was geting repaired. the bike ran strong. i got a new tank and all plastic painted. ever since then it was down hill. now to the point where its like a katana. in higher rpm it seems like it starving. but it dosent shut down or run bad. no popping or missing. the only thing that has changed is the tank. i tried changing the fuel filter. checked the pet****. put the stock slip on back on. the plugs are all a light brown and all look same. maybee its time to take to bike shop. 1 other point is first is still the same. good power. the speed still seems there just the torque is gone in 2nd and 3rd if that makes sense.

fuel pump?? sounds like something might be clogging it up or something. any chance anything got in there when everything got repainted. I'd check the carbs to, might as well clean em'.

I had the same problem with my 98 gixxer 600. It was because of my fuell pump. It would still gravity feed the bowls but it just wasn't enough. Do you hear your fuell pump cut on. If so do a flow test on it to see what it's pumping. (just an îdea)
