stator cover gasket?

I need to take off the stator cover today and I'm wondering if I need to replace the gasket on there or if I'd be ok with reusing the old one and lots of gasket sealant. it's an 00 gix 750. I actually already ordered the gasket ($7) one a couple days ago but I really need to have the bike tonight, so if it's not in in a few hours I'm going to try to do it with the old one. Or can I use a high temp gasket and cut it to size?

I would put a new gasket in it. I have heard that you could use liquid gasket but I definatly prefer the manufact gasket. If your old gasket isnt all haggered, you can use it for sure. When i took my stator off, my gasket was ripped, and all messed up . . ..

Gasket?? what gasket?? LOL Just use some silicone RTV and you'll be fine. No gasket needed.

Re: stator cover gasket?

lol, is that blue rtv? I've heard some really good things about that stuff, I'll grab it then. Do you think it would be better to use the old gasket, if it's good, WITH the gasket sealer than just the sealant by itself?

Re: stator cover gasket?

blue or red

just scrape both surfaces clean, apply rtv to both the cover and the case (just a thin layer but make sure its 100% covered), don't use the old gasket, it could move when you put it on and leave a spot for a leak.

Re: stator cover gasket?

Ok, so I have been leaking oil for a few weeks, nothing major though, just enough to get a little bit on the inside of the fairing, then last night I was coming home and there was a little puddle of oil on my left boot. I knew it was coming from the stator cover and I thought it was just a bad seal, turns out it's the little boot coming out of the top with a few wires in it. I took the cover off an hour ago and the boot has a couple little tears in it, looks like it's in rough shape so I'm going to order a new one asap. the thing is I REALLY want to have the bike for the weekend and the little boot won't be in until mid week next week.
So I used the rtv stuff where the gasket would go, looks good, then I COVERED the part of the boot that stays inside the stator cover, hopefully plugging up any holes inside of it, then I bolted everything back on and completely covered the boot in rvt, I used like 1/3 of a tube. Does this sound like it should work? I know it will def be an improvement over what it was before, and it's only gonna need to last for like a week.

Re: stator cover gasket?

It will be rubbery. Use a razor blade to get it off.
