f4i front wheel on 954? Wheel Bearings?
i have a f4i front rim that i am putting 954 bearings in, i am having problems getting the bearings in, they slide in to the dust boot journal but when i try to hammer it in it won't go, i am using a 34 mm socket on the outter race and can not get it in, do i have to get them pressed in? thanks for the help

Re: f4i front wheel on 954? Wheel Bearings?
I measured if I could install 600RR wheel to 954, all the brake disk mounting meas are the same, but the front axl is thicker on 954, it's 25mm, when 600RR is like 22mm? So I thought the bearins are different, they are, but are the bearing housings different? Don't know.... The axl seal is very similar, the radius is the same.
I think the bearing housings may be different. Measure it. If they are the same, you can but the bearing to a freezer, cold makes the bearing little smaller, then just slam it in. You probably need to hammer it in gently with suitable pipe as a driver(hit the outer ring).

it won't work. The o.d. on the 954 bearings is 47mm, the i.d. of the F4i bearing holes in the wheel is 45mm. The 2mm difference is what's keeping the bearings from going in to the F4i wheel, and there is nothing you can do to overcome it other than buying a 929 or 954 front wheel. I had a F4i wheel machined to accept the 954 bearings, but I still had spacing issues. Make it easy on yourself and get another wheel.

What kind of spacing issues did you have? If you machine the wheel to the correct depth, use the 929 wheel spacers and replace the collar on the inside of the wheel (that goes inside the wheel between the two bearings) it still doesnt fit right?

I couldn't get it centered correctly. The bearing hole depth on the f4i wheel and actual width is slightly different than the 954, so it would be very difficult to figure how deep the hole needs to be machined, not to mention that one bearing sits deeper in the wheel on one side compared to the other. No matter what I did, I had a 1/16" variance on one side or the other. Finally, I gave up and found a 929 wheel.
