Chain master link help. So close to stuntin' I can FEEL it!!!! Help please
K another dumb *** question or 2. New chain seems a bit long, normal? Should I take a link out and if so do I grind it and then use my chain breaking tool to remove the rivet? Or use just adjust the chain way back until I HAVE to remove a link?
One last question. What's the trick with the rivet type master link? Do I press the link on and then somehow flange the rivet? What's the deal with these things?
Last thing and then I'm stuntin'!!!!
Save me one more time someone.................. I can taste it!!!!!

Another quick fix for the rivot type link is a C-clamp and a steel ball bearing. Put the ball bearing in the little indentation and tighten the C-clamp. Works prety good.

hammer and a nail worked last time. ball bearing seems like a great idea though. probably much better mushrooming action than a nail..............

if you have 600 and its a 520 or 525 chain. you can get a clip on masterlink like a fiddy.
easy to pop on and off
but check the chain, when they get too long it means the chain is shot.

I have the clip style master link and about 2 weeks after i put it on I lost it somewhere. I wrecked the bike too but no cuz of the chain. Anyways when i Was putting the bike back together I was working on adjusting the chain and noticed I had lost the clip and no hardware stores were open so my dad and i went through his c-clip box and found a couple of very little c-clips that work much better than the standard style e-clips. I havent had anymore problems with it since then.

Just as a quick note...the clip style link is not as strong as the rivet type. I used a hammer and a punch for mine, it's held up so far, but I wouldn't recommend it. If your chain ever breaks it can bunch up at the front sprocket and crack the case, not to mention possibly lock up your tire.

Thanks for the advice, stunt dogs! I'm there! Now I just have to figure out this crazy *** huge sprocket for the slow ones.

if you use a clip link, your doomed on a streetbike. Thats definately asking for trouble. I used a hammer to hold up behind the chain, then used a small punch to set the link on, then used a ball hammer to mushroom it out. Works everytime, but its definately better if you get a tool

Bump...Is the consensus here to do this some ghettoway or to use the proper tool? I messed around with trying to do it without the tool today but I think I might just order it and do it right since no other methods I tried seem to work properly.
